Questions the file answers

Each row is one CN number and review type at the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH): the applicant and facility, the project, the county, the capital cost, the submitted, deemed complete and decision dates, the staff recommendation and State Health Planning Board vote on full reviews, the date the approval expires, and links to the letter and the status report. The busiest counties are Bergen, Middlesex, Essex and Morris.

Built from the state's own documents

The file covers 370 rows: 274 applications decided by a posted letter or still under full review (217 expedited reviews and 57 full reviews, the 29 applications in the 2017 psychiatric bed call among them) and 96 filings that appear only on the Department's 2016 to 2020 lists of applications filed. Expedited decisions run from 2017 to October 2026 and full review decisions from 2016 to January 2026. New Jersey stopped posting its list of filings in April 2020, so for later years the file holds what the Department decided and posted, not every application filed. Withdrawn, pending and unposted applications from after April 2020 are not in it.

  • The Department posted 217 expedited review decisions, 4 of them denials. 126 rows are assisted living residences and 73 are extensions of time on earlier approvals.
  • The Commissioner overruled the State Health Planning Board once in this file: Trinitas Regional Medical Center's Level II trauma center, approved unanimously by the Board on January 17, 2019 and denied on May 17, 2019, as Department staff had recommended.
  • 70 filings from the 2016 to 2020 lists have no posted decision letter. The file lists them as no decision found, not as denials.
