The data

What period does it cover?

Every request with an application received from January 2016 on, 605 as of October 27, 2026, plus 26 letters of intent not yet public-noticed. Requests noticed from August 2024 on are compiled from all three state documents; earlier ones come from VDH's request log. Each monthly update adds the newest filings and decisions.

What is the independent research?

For pending requests and recent decisions, I look outside VDH for news coverage, health-system announcements, local government records and court filings, and add a short dated note with source links. If nothing turns up, the row says so.

Where does the data come from?

Public notices, DCOPN staff reports and Commissioner case decisions published by the Virginia Department of Health. Every row links to its source PDFs. The method page has the detail.

Is this an official state database?

No. It is an independent compilation of the state's published documents, and the state's documents remain the official record.

What happens when the state's documents disagree?

The row keeps both values and names the document each came from. 42 of the 131 rows have at least one such conflict.

Does it cover states other than Virginia?

Not yet. If North Carolina or DC would change what the file is worth to you, tell me; that decides what gets added next.

Can I ask whether a specific filing is in the file?

Yes. Email the request number or applicant and I will tell you what the row holds.

Subscription

When does the first file arrive?

March 2027. Updates follow each month after that.

What changes in a monthly update?

New requests are added, staff reports and decisions are filled in as they post, and every changed row is marked so you can see what moved.

What format is the file?

An Excel workbook and a CSV file with the same rows, plus a short coverage note.

Can I see more before I reserve?

Yes. Email me for the 10-row sample, which has every column. I send it within one business day.

Billing

What does it cost?

$500 a year for each of the first five subscribers.

What happens after the first five?

I will set the rate for later subscribers before launch and post it on the pricing page.

When am I charged?

You are not charged to reserve. The invoice arrives with the first file in March 2027, payable by check or ACH.

What if the file is not what I expected?

If the file does not match the description on this site, you do not pay. You can also cancel any time before March 2027 and owe nothing.

Use and licensing

Can my whole firm use it?

Yes. One subscription covers use by everyone within one firm.

Do you give refunds?

Not once the file is delivered. You pay only after the first file arrives, and you owe nothing if it does not match the description on this site. The terms have the details.

Can I use the data in work for my clients?

Yes, in your own analysis and work product. Reselling or republishing the file itself is not covered.

What do you do with the information on the reservation form?

I use it to send your confirmation, invoice and license to the right person, and for nothing else. The privacy policy has the details.
